Olympus Corporation (President: Tsuyoshi Kikukawa) is to stage an international amateur photo contest in conjunction with its Global Warming Witness - Mitsuaki Iwago Special (GWW) website.
The contest, giving site users themselves the opportunity to become global warming witnesses, will take as its theme “Nature and Wildlife You Want to Protect”*1. Olympus hopes that entering the contest will give more people a feel for the changes occurring in their immediate surroundings, and the priceless nature of much we take for granted. The contest this year will be run according to an open format, with all entries received*2 to be displayed on the website.

The Olympus E-620 & µ TOUGH-8000 have been recognised as the leaders of their respective camera categories at the annual TIPA awards for products and technologies in the field of photography. This year, the Four Thirds-based E-620 won the prestigious award for “Best D-SLR Entry Level”, while the µ Tough-8000 was named “Best Rugged D-camera” of the year. TIPA is comprised of members from 29 independent publications based in 13 countries around the world.

Olympus Releases E-450 Incorporating Art Filters

Olympus Imaging Corporation (President Masaharu Okubo) today announced the E-450, the world’s slimmest, smallest interchangeable-lens-type digital SLR camera. Featuring Art Filters for creative photography, the E-450 is scheduled for release in May 2009.
The E-450 is the world’s slimmest, smallest*1 digital SLR camera. Its compact design achieved through further refinement of the E-420 digital SLR camera (released in April 2008), which has been widely praised for its excellent portability and picture quality.
But what makes this slim D-SLR really special is its new Art Filter function, which makes it possible for users to take advantage of unique creative photographic effects previously possible only using special lenses, optical filters and/or complex image processing. Three different Art Filters are provided: “Pop Art” for vividly enhanced colours; “Soft Focus” to create ethereal images with soft tones; and “Pin Hole” which reduces peripheral brightness to create a unique and unusual image.
